SINGER/SONGWRITER SENSATION JAMIE JO HARRIS MAKES IMPRESSIONABLE DEBUT AT SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME AWARDS - 06.19.09
Jamie Jo Harris made her debut as the music industry’s next “It Girl” singer/songwriter on the red carpet at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards last Thursday, June 18 at New York City’s Marriott Marquis. Wearing vintage Lanvin circa 1980s and jewelry by Rosalina, Jamie Jo was introduced to music industry greats including Grammy Awards President Neil Portnow and singer/songwriters -- both accomplished and emerging -- Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi, Desmond Child, Sir Tom Jones, Paul Williams and American Idol's Chris Daughtry.
The newest lifetime member of the elite organization, Jamie Jo is currently working with nine-time Grammy Award-winning producer Rudy Pérez, who recently requested she compose a song specifically for Leona Lewis. In addition, Pérez, along with his team, selected five songs from Jamie Jo’s hit CD In Violet (Odin Media, September 2008) to present to artists he works closely with, including Beyonce and Madonna. In Violet features hits such as Jamie’s Jo’s debut single, "U Turn Me On," a pop confection duet with legendary vocalist and family friend Barry Gibb of Bee Gees fame; the party for the song’s release was hosted by Jamie Jo’s godmother, Nikki Haskell, and filmmaker Brett Ratner at the Beverly Hills Hotel in September 2008.
The 2009 Songwriters Hall of Fame 40th Anniversary Awards show was a dazzling success. The affair, which recognized the work and lives of enduring composers and lyricists who create popular music around the world, was attended by more than 1000 music industry leaders, celebrity presenters and performers including Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati (The Young Rascals); Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway; Crosby, Stills & Nash; Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland of Holland-Dozier-Holland; Galt MacDermot, James Rado, Stephen Schwartz, Brian Holland, Andy Williams, Jason Mraz and Maxyne Lang.
Songwriters Hall of Fame’s ongoing mission is to celebrate and honor the contributions of popular music songwriters who have written the soundtrack for the nation’s history, while developing new writing talent through workshops, showcases, scholarships and digital initiatives. Established in 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame honors those whose work represents a spectrum of the most beloved songs from the world’s popular music songbook.
